This Evil Knows No Super Hero Action. The Rise of the Black Bat review!

The thing about the recent DC Universe or Marvel super hero movies is that they’re full of action. Bombarded with punches to the face, super human powers, and loads of soaring, gliding, and cloaking, super hero movies can get the blood pumping and sear entertainment into your soul and off the charts. The makings of an unlimited budget, mega-Hollywood superhero action movie hit relies on these qualities. So what about the independent forum? Sure, some fair well with “Super” with Rainn Wilson comes to mind. Then their is ultra-low budget and this is where the super hero movie flounders without mercy on it’s audience.

“Rise of the Black Bat” follows the fallen district attorney Tony Quinn after being blinded by acid from a notorious city gangster Oliver Snate. When numerous surgeries fail to restore Tony’s sight, he turns to more radical procedures. One of those procedures turns his sight into fully functional night vision and thus his vigilantism begins against his nemesis Snate.

I had great hopes for “The Rise of the Black Bat” from director Scott Patrick. The expectation was high for action and violence in what was hoped to be a “Punisher” type movie. However, the Black Bat isn’t that black. My first sign that my grand hopes have been let down was the amount of talking. The power of speech, not the great and grand speech, but the vast diarrhea of the mouth can ruin any action film that involves more talking with your feet, legs, and fists.

Secondly, the editing is painstakingly dreadful. Why use slow motion on almost every pointless scene? That’s not how slow motion works. Use slow motion to specially focus on the action and not the D.A. conversing with the D.A.’s secretary. The scenes are also repeated to create some sort of dramatic effect which creates more of a dull waste of film.

Lastly, the gun fights are a joke. Both the villains and the Black Bat are horrible shots. The fights last about 10 minutes a peace and the characters stay in the same place the entire scene. Pow-Pow. Bang-Bang. Miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, miss, and miss with no real movement. The amount of intensity the audience is suppose to feel in these particular scenes are nullified and depressing.

Overall, The Rise of the Black Bat is not a great action, super-vigilante movie and is no where near even being a so-so action, super-vigilante movie. What it comes down to is that the bare bones of basic hero movie necessities are not displayed. Instead, they are rather hidden behind a great looking DVD cover. I’d suggest not picking this one up and don’t give up your time to get let down.

Evil Review: F.E.A.R. 3: A late review

fear3

I know I am 3 years late on doing this but I finally finished the F.E.A.R. series and would love to give my opinion on the 3rd installment. What can I say about F.E.A.R. that has already been said? Well its one hell of a unique game series, very interesting story and gameplay mechanics. Its one of the only games that does a good job balancing action and horror. I fell in love with the first two games the first one being my favorite, but I never got a chance to play the third game until recently.

F.E.A.R. 3 takes place directly after the 2nd game and you reprise the role of point man again (main character of fear 1). I’m very happy you play as point man again in the 3rd game, he is just too badass. There is also a 2nd protagonist you play as for co-op mode but to avoid spoilers I won’t talk much about him. Gameplay has changed since the first two games; they removed the badass cover system that you could perform in F.E.A.R. 2 like for example you could run up to a table and flip it over and use it as cover. They removed this feature in F.E.A.R. 3 which was a bummer, but added a different cover system which all you do is hide behind an object and quickly swap between different obstacles which is pretty cool. You no longer have to use medkits, you can now regenerate health which takes away some difficulty. Gameplay is more fast paced unlike others, there is little to no silent, walking segments like we’ve seen in the first two games. Each part of every level is full of fast pace action and it gets very repetitive.

The mystery of the story is no longer there. Everything about the campaign seemed too predictable, and not much of a mystery or being left in the dark like the first F.e.a.r. game did. Each interval got more annoying then the last, it felt like the game was forcing you to play co-op because if you didn’t then you are going to have a frustrating time with the intervals. They felt more like endurance test than levels. The co-op in the game isn’t too bad, it’s quite fun actually and even has some competitive aspect to it which is very unique. Both players can effect the outcome of the game by competing against each other in getting the highest score, by the end of the game both players scores will be calculated and the game will choose the best player and go with their ending.

F.E.A.R. is one of my favorite action/horror games and I hope they will continue the series in the future. With F.E.A.R. Online coming out soon on Steam I  felt it was time for me to finish the main series and give my opinion on the final game. F.E.A.R. 3 is no where close to being as good as the first two F.e.a.r. games. It focuses way too much on action and it is too face pace, if anyone wants to try the F.E.A.R. games then please start with the first one. It has an amazing atmosphere, fun gameplay, and good story. My personal rating of F.E.A.R. 3 will have to be a 6/10 its a fun game but as for a true F.E.A.R. game compared the others,  it didn’t meet the expectations.

Evil Mail Cal! Check out what is on the chop block for It’s Bloggin’ Evil!

MAIL CALL!

The mail man finally brought me my packages.  As I tracked the package, I saw that the package shipped from Pittsburgh, went to Ohio for processing, traveled to Southeastern PA, then to Downingtown, PA which is two minutes from where I reside.  However, when I thought the package would arrive the next day, my blood started to boil when I found that it was just processed in Jersey City, NJ.  Gah!  Five days later (after a weekend), my package finally arrived and I was relieved and now I can share with you what might the content be for future articles.

For the first time on It’s Bloggin’ Evil, I made a video post about what was received.  This gives you a clear idea on the content that one might come across.  Now not every film in this video will be reviewed here because their genres just aren’t evil enough, but I still think it’s interested to see what people can hunt down in flea markets, yard sales, Movie Stop’s used section, Walmart’s $5 dollar bin and so on.  Also, don’t expect just movies on future video posts!

Hopefully you enjoy the video.  I can be a dry talker at times, but I’m a bit camera shy and can get nervous.  There is some bloopers and humorous remarks in this little over 8 minute video.  Thanks again for watching and make sure you return from the grave and check out the evil to come.
