King’s adapted 70’s film gets a makeover! Carrie remake news!

In 1976, Brian DePalma directed Sissy Spacek and John Travolta in Carrie which is about a young high school girl who is constantly tormented by her peers.  Carrie discovers she has telekinetic powers and uses them gruesomely against her tormenters, and the rest of the school, when they play a disgusting prank on her at prom involving pig blood.  The film was a major hit for not only DePalma, but it damn well jump started the careers of Spacek and Travolta.

Now there is talk of a remake being composed by MGM and Song Screen Gems (Resident Evil franchise) who want to have a fresh take on the Stephen King novel.  This retake is being penned by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa who had wrote the stage play Spider-Man:  Turn off the Dark.  Aguirre-Sacasa was brought in to write a more novel faithful version of Carrie.

Here’s hoping for the best.

Not just another evil versus movie! Ninjas vs Vampires review!

If you’ve ever been unfortunate to see that piece of shit Vince D’Amato 2004 film Vampires vs Zombies (also called Carmilla, the Lesbian Vampire), a fear has probably dug deep with in the core of you’re very soul urging you to never, ever watch another indie horror project again for the rest of your mundane life.  No fear fiends!  Lets split up vampires and zombies and add ninjas instead!  First, there was Ninjas vs Zombies; a sleek, funny and fresh clash of two factions that never saw the light of day against each other.  Director and writer Justin Timpane does a great job with the martial art choreographic and special effects that will put your faith back into indie horror.  The subject of this review is Timpane’s sequel to Ninjas vs Zombies; Ninjas vs Vampires was with out a doubt the next logical title for his 2008 versus movie.

Aaron and his long time friend and desire Alex find themselves in the middle of an epic battle between the deadly forces of ninjas and the ultimate blood sucking night stalkers, the vampires.  The ninjas look to stop the world from falling into the sharp fangs of the vampires, but when Alex is kidnapped, the clan and Aaron must make a choice to whether risk the fate of the entire world on a single mortal girl.

Unfaithfulness and evilness. Loft remake news!

Add this to the Remake Central list!  In 2008, a Belgium thriller entitled Loft has scored a U.S. remake.  Of course, the time between the original and the remake is very Let The Right One In-ish and there was no time really to the let the original film grow.  With that being said, Loft remake has pulled a Ring remake as the original Loft director Erik Van Looy will reprise his directorial role for the remake.  Wait, the reprisal of roles doesn’t stop there as Matthias Schoenaerts joins the cast to reprise his role of Fillip Williams.

This rare occasion when an actor helms the same character in the original and it’s remake is far from heard of, but Matthias will take it on yet again and the question will be will he fine tune his performance or change up the character completely?  Starring beside Matthias will be Wentworth Miller (Resident Evil:  Afterlife), Eric Stonestreet, Patrick Wilson (Hard Candy), James Marsden (X-Men).

Tropical evil never felt so good! Dead Island news!

Remember that remarkable and emotionally stirring first trailer (see here) for the upcoming Dead Island video game?  The trailer was gut-wrenched full of chaos in where no one was safe.  Techland’s awesome remote island zombie game will turn many heads.  A second trailer has been released and, though not as powerful as the first, still has that taste for the theatric or dramatic, if you will.

After the first trailer released, there wasn’t much time between the trailer and the news floating around about film producers and companies shopping around for the rights to make this bad boy into a full fledged feather-length film.  Though nothing has come about the film yet, the game hasn’t even been released yet as we’re set for an August 1st date.  You can pre-order your Dead Island Xbox 360 or PS3 copies now at Amazon.com!

Evil loves to party rock? LMFAO homages 28 Days Later.

This was brought to my attention over the weekend.  The electro-pop duo LMFAO released a single back in 2009 called Party Rock.  What does Party Rock have to do with the world of horror?  Nothing.  However, when you make a music video for it and incorporate a homage to a certain horror movie, than suddenly it has everything to do with horror.  Go figure.

The Party Rock music video takes place in Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later world; streets laced with overturned cars and people act in strange ways.  Instead of chomping the pieces of flesh of uninfected bodies and spewing blood from ever orifice, these “infected” just like to shuffle every day to the Party Rock.  I know, I know I’m a bit late on seeing this music video, but in my defense, LMFAO wasn’t a top choice in music for me at the time.
